What are the best deals on the playbook?

FYI, the Playbook is once again discounted to $199.00 at BlackBerry.com(it had recently been raised to $299.00) so I ordered four more. This should cover all of my family that does not yet have PB’s. I have a big family but my wife, brother and dad have loved theirs. Soon, my two sisters and mom will get to as well. I’ve set-up all their tablets so they are video chat, dropbox/BlueBox, family pic./videos pre-loaded when they get them.

Here is my suggestion if you are interested in an awesome tablet that is going to get way more awesome on Tuesday.

1. Buy a Playbook for $199.00. I may be wrong but I think we are unlikely to see this price again after Tuesday. I believe even the Kindle fire is a steal at 199 and the Playbook is far, far better IMO. so this price anomaly will go away.

2. Buy a case to protect it. I love the convertible case. BlackBerry has a buy two and get the second item half off but it is still more than purchasing the same case on CrackBerry after the President’s Day Sale discount and you don’t have to buy two.

So, in conclusion, if you want a table that is going for the same as the Kindle Fire but has way better specs and cameras for video chat and has even better specs than the admittedly very nice iPad2 but costs less than half as much and is more portable, then I think the best deal is to buy a PB from BlackBerry and a the convertible case from CrackBerry if you use the holiday discount.

Enjoy,

Answer:

1. is the playbook coming out in a few days with os 2 the same hardware as the one currently on sale, but upgrade os is do it yourself? or does new playbook have different hardware specs? differences?
2. currently using Blackberry 9650s on os 5.something. will os5 allow me to use bridge to sync to pb or will it require me to finally move to os 6? is os 7 bb preferable to use w playbook and if so, why?
3. am facing increasing ‘fees’ without any overages on my part on my sprint everything plan. my $149.99 plan is coming in at close to 200, so am wondering whether i want to put 1 line onto a bb pre-paid plan w/ any old bb for the bis (provided no bad experience 4 playbook will occur) and use that w/ the playbook and a cheapo simple phone for talk. would be fine for the sr citizen who uses the other bb, bigger screen, even easier to see and type, and simple phone with numbers easier to manage. more work for me getting it going though. plan ends few months, 1 line mo to mo, may be worth it to move 2 of lines and do this w/ bb on cheaper plan w/ fewer minutes and more data. appreciate any suggestions.

How to Convert pictures from rem to jpg

I know this has been posted a fair amount already and there is plenty of info out there, but I have tried all the following and still have not been able to change some of my picture and video files from .REM (so my new PlayBookcan read them!):

how to change rem to jpg

How to change pictures rem to jpg on Blackberry Playbook

- Turned off encryption, hard rebooted the phone, created new folder on Media Card and moved files into it.

- Tried emailing the files to myself, still stuck in .REM format

- Tried renaming them as suggested before, no luck!

Once again, I apologise for asking this for a billionth time and if this is the right forum to be posting into, but how would I convert these files away from the cursed .REM format?

Thanks!

It’s just the recent images and videos I’ve taken in the past few months that are encrypted. It’s because I switched on encryption a few months ago, stupidly thinking it would make my device more secure and convenient…I turned it off already though, and nothing seems to be working!

How to make my Blackberry with wifi without Dataplan

Maybe it will sound strange and boring, but could not find the answer.

I am on the business trip, using Roaming. Now Connected to Orange (in Poland), 2G network, having EDGE in big letter.
As it states, my BIS is over the Mobile network.

In the morning (in the office) I have connected my Blackberry to a hotspot network, entered login/password data in my BB browser and had a WiFi icon with the BB icon aside. As I understand, it says that I have the BIS over Wifi.

Blackberry wifi setup without Data Plan

When I came back to my room, where I have my own, standard wifi network (not a hotspot), I see that BB is connected to Wifi, but BIS is still through Mobile carrier (and there is no BB icon near my WIfi), even the WIfi signal is excellent…

I re-registered few times, but still it goes through Orange, not the Wifi…

What to do? How to make it work through the Wifi?
I want my emails/bbm/etc to go through my wifi which is free of charge….
Please help!!!

Answer:

it’s different routers.

At the office there is one set-up where wifi works as hotspot, at “home” – there is anothet setup – standard personal wifi router (fonera, I use it for my travels – small one), connected to the facility network via cable. no hot spots, justs standard wifi network in my room.. the same setup I have at home.

it just somehow BB does not register through Wifi… edit service books? what to do?

What if new Blackberry devices were powered by Intel Chips?

What if the generation Blackberry devices were powered by intel chips? i think it would be the single greatest technological boost for bb devices by just adopting intel. mobile graphic chip vendors would gladly supply chips for intel-based systems (you’d have to be mentally retarded to refuse intel) popular myth: intel cannot compete in the mobile space because their chips run too hot and are inefficient (reminds me on the days when macs were

Intel Powered Blackberry

powered by power-pc cpu’s and ifanboys used to brag “macs are 5x faster than wintel machines”). fact: intel by now is excellent at efficiency and just getting better. besides they are the only one to have the manufacturing capabilities that the others simply cannot match (not even samsung, amd, tsmc, etc); and intel has deep experience with the pains relating to excessive heat (remember the pentium 4 days?) something arm manufacturers lack and are about to deal with. yes right now current os7 devices are inferior and unreliable (and awful at battery life) and as of right now the 9900 is my last bb device. that medfield-based motorola looks great by the way. but this could change if rim goes intel the same way motorola did. my wishful thinking is that bb10 devices have been delayed because the company is working on a “medfield” prototype. any thoughts?

Microsoft is making Windows 8 to function with ARM based chips. ARM is so far ahead of Intel in mobile/tablet phone computing chips. Signing up with Intel would be like RIM’s staying with Marvell way past their prime, i.e. a disaster. IMHO.

They don’t even have a proper voip solution…I can imagine the carriers going in a tizzy over free voice calling through BBM. We already can BBM world wide…maybe one day when RIM will #BeBold, we can have it all.

Help my gmail not syncing with blackberry!

Does g-mail still not sync 2-way on BIS? I have a gmail account and if I open or delete an e-mail on my BB Curve 9330, it shows as open/read or deletes off gmail. However, if I am at my laptop and read or delete an e-mail from there, it doesn’t show as read or delete off the phone. This is kind of irritating sometimes when you get alot of mail and then have to go back onto to your phone to re-delete them all. Does anyone have any solutions to this?

Answer:

Have you enabled wireless synchronization? Are you using a desktop client like Outlook, or just the Gmail website? Did you move the email out of the Inbox before deleting it?

  • Go into Messages, hit Menu>Options>Email Reconciliation.
  • Select your Gmail account.
  • Make sure Wireless Reconcile is checked.
  • Set Delete On to Prompt, or Mailbox and Handheld, whatever your preference is.
  • Choose an option for On Conflict, either Mailbox Wins, or Handheld Wins. I usually leave mine on Mailbox Wins.

O2 blackberry The Agony of Choice

I always thought having freedom to choose is a good thing but it seems to be the opposite in the mobile space. With the amount of RIM bashing going on you would think the world wants only 2 OS devices to choose from.
It’s odd how no other space carries so much disdain for the other competitors. You never hear a person bash a Samsung over a Sony TV.

People now a days, treat their phone as if it is an extension of their body. It is a badge of honor and bragging point for those that have the latest and greatest, which is sad, but true. I have this 4 inch touchscreen blah-blah that can do anything which makes your blah blah suck. I agree with you, choice is always good. It keeps up the competition and allows creativity to thrive more often than not. Phones are more of a fandom anymore. People get involved and personal with their device which isn’t a bad thing since they are very important in your everyday living, but at the end of the day if you have a smartphone that was made in the last 2-3 year, more than likely you have access to the internet, e-mail, games, etc whether its a BB, iPhone, Android, Windows or whatever. Some have perks over others, its a personal choice for each individual, not how society views one brand over the other.
